About Counselling
Individuals vary enormously, as do the reasons they seek counselling support. Often, clients are simply looking for a safe setting where they can talk to a qualified and non-judgmental specialist about the distressing or stressful feelings they are experiencing.
Circumstances might include:
bereavement, separation, or other major life transitions
experiences from the past, such as childhood trauma.
specific psychological or behavioural traits which the client would like to alter, such as compulsive disorders or difficulties relating to other people.
a general feeling that life is just 'not quite right', or to cope with feelings of depression or anxiety.
Counselling is not just about problems!
It is important to appreciate, however, that
counselling does not have to be only about addressing problems. Some
people look to counselling to help them discover or create meaning
in their lives and are attracted to counselling as an opportunity to
undertake personal development in a safe and supportive environment.
